Visiting Teachers

Talkin’ the Drum frequently hosts touring drummers and dancers to do workshops in the Northern Rivers and South East Qld.

Whether from Africa, Europe, the States or interstate in Australia, the standard of these touring artists is world class and a great chance for lovers of drumming and dance to extend their skills.

Retreats and Camps

Talkin’ the Drum frequently offers intensive camps and retreats, perfect opportunities to really sink your teeth into the rhythms and dances. Over the years we have held more than 30 such camps or retreats in the Northern Rivers, Tasmania, Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island), on the Sunshine Coast and recently, Bali, Indonesia.

Such a wonderful way to deeply connect both with your own sense of rhythm and with the other beautiful humans who love rhythm.

Calabash-Gourd Workshops

The calabash gourd is a remarkable instrument from Africa. When placed on the surface of water it produces an epic bass note.

This is the perfect ‘Byron Bay experience’!

Virtual

Talkin’ the Drum quickly adapted to the new landscape of COVID because, after all, the show must go on! If lockdowns mean in-person classes can’t go ahead, never fear, we will reintroduce a Zoom option. It’s surprisingly fun, even if you don’t have a drum at home.

Drum Making Workshops

Reskin or make your own djembe with Talkin’ the Drum. Participate in the process as little or as much as you feel comfortable, knowing that the end result will be as perfect as if we had made it for you.
